the runway was a flourish of dolce and gabana, gucci, versace, and more.. there's no other feeling like the pumping of adrenaline as each model makes her way down the runway in glamorous outfits... sometimes i hold my breath awaiting the next set... other times, my breath is taken away by an exquisite gown...

the debut of my evening collection included a geisha-inspired cocktail dress entitled kimono fantasy... the silk fabric with floral print was purchased in new york, and the long, trailing obi belt was made from a jaquard fabric found in seattle... bright, vibrant hues are a signature in my collection...

with the opening of the new neiman marcus in bellevue within a few months away, there have been numerous festivities taking place in preparation for the opening day... one such gathering was the trunk show and runway show with mr. zac posen himself, a fabulous women's clothing designer from new york...

my first fashion show as a designer

the international examiner's 35 year anniversary evening of events included a fashion designer competition that i entered... this was my first time showing any of my work as a designer, which i was quite nervous about... there was a panel of 5 judges who made comments about each designer's work after their set was presented... even though i didn't win the competition, it was an exciting experience to have my creations shown on the runway...

i plan on continuing to sew part-time and entering in more shows in the future... sewing has been a huge passion of mine for the majority of my life, so it's about time i made a show of it for the world to see!

a submission form for the international examiner's inspirasian fashion designer competition was passed on to me from a friend a while back... being that i have been sewing again in the recent couple of years, i decided to enter my designs and see what came of it... much to my suprise, i was admitted into the competition and set to work creating four gowns on top of the other four i already had on hand... i affectionately titled each creation, seen below:

an evening of hip-hop festivities was held at fremont's own ski/board shop, evo... hence the title, evofest... the four elements of hip-hop were represented with visual stimulation by various graffiti artists, battles by local bboys and bgirls, beats by ohmega watts, and mc performances by can-u and fidget... and, of course, photography provided by yours truly...

Coming from Taiwan as an immigrant to the United States, my mother is definitely one of the hardest working people I know (the other is my father). I inherited all my creativity from this woman who gave up her career as a dance teacher in Taipei to bring her children to another country so they could have better opportunities. She and my father sacrificed so much for my happiness. And I was never pressured into a lofty career, but encouraged to go after my love for the arts. Today, I am a freelance photographer, with my mom to thank for my artistic gene, as well as my goofy nature. For the fact that she has always been my number one fan, she deserves the title of the best mother in the world!

there was a time when exiting off i-5 onto seneca street was a common occurrence in my driving schedule... i would then make a right onto fourth avenue, where i would usually be stopped at the light on university, right in front of the luly yang store... i would gaze into the windows and admire the new designs, dreaming of the day to come when i would buy one of her gowns...

today i get to photograph her fashion shows, a wonderful privilege for me to be able to see her newest fashions up close and personal... here are some photos from her latest collection, pearl essence...

my second time visiting the bay area proved to be just and fun-filled as the first... there's just so much to do and so little time to do it in! even after all the exciting places i visited, all the delicious food i ate, and all the dazzling photos i took, i still have a long list of things i want to do when i return...

an exciting 3 days of fashion shows was first kicked off by an industry part at amber... the following runway shows took place at the highly acclaimed venue, jonas jenson fremont studios...

this was the grandest fashion week to date, with live performances, amazing sponsors, and the best fashion in seattle!

this was my first time photographing multiple dogs at one time... this trio was quite a handful, and it definitely took quite a bit of patience to get the best shots... as rambunctious as they were, they were also tons of fun to have as my subject!

cherry blossoms are in full bloom as we head into the spring season... they could also be called "cheery blossoms," as they are so enjoyable to admire... these trees that line portland's riverfront were vibrant against the blue skies, with their pink petals fluttering in the wind...

seattle's mighty 4 took place during the zulu nation 5 year anniversary weekend in seattle... the event, held at the emp's grand sky church, included a 3 on 3 battle, footwork battle, and bonnie and clyde battle... my favorite dj's bles one, dv one, and soul one were in attendance!

puget sound business journal's ceo of the year happens to also be my favorite philanthropist, mr. jim sinegal... he has time and time again been kind and gracious to me in his presence, which i find very refreshing and frankly, sometimes hard to come by... i meet many amazing people in my line of work, and mr. sinegal is one whom i consider one of my heroes...

nw sweet 16

the 2009 edition of seattle's nw sweet 16 battle occurred on january 17 at the seattle vineyard... this two-story venue allowed spectators to maneuver into a good spot to watch the b-boys and b-girls battle it out for the title and prize...

this year's all-star line-up included members of battle reflexes, byc, circle of fire, crisis, dance broomz, def con 5, filthee feet, fraggle rock, freshest kids, illaskin assassins, knuckleheadz, misguided steps, moon patrol, and soul felons... many others joined the 2 on 2 battle (48 crews, to be exact)...

the night was a flurry of music, dance, and love... here are the photos captured:

Photographer Vivian Hsu, 27, has been with Team Photogenic for three years. Unlike the studio portrait work she did before, this job gives her access to high-profile events like Nordstrom's Designer Preview. She has become one of Fisher's main photographers.

"It gets to a point where it doesn't feel like work," she said. "It feels like I'm part of the party."
